Here's a few things you should know about calories.
Yes, bodybuilding diets requires a big calorie intake.
Are all calories the same? unfortunatly not.
A calorie is either a protein, a carb or a fat. respectively 4 cals, 4cals and 9 cals.
Now, as you probably already know, not all fats, carbs or even protein are good.
Here's a basic exemple of this..
EX #1 : Greek yogurt vs Pudding.
For 100cals of Greek yogurt you get
- 17g of good protein.
- 5g of carbs from sugar
- 0.7g of fats, which 0.2 are from saturated (bad fats) and the rest from good fats.
For a 120cals Chocolate pudding.
- 3.2g of protein (not gonna build muscles of this)
- 20g of carbs which are mostly from sugar (bad)
- 3.2g of fats which 1.8 are from saturated (bad fats)
So which one of these would you think be the best snack between your meals to reach your goals? (Loose bodyfat, gain muscles)
THE GREEK YOGURT WINS.
A lot of bodybuilder so called ''experts'' or ''gymrats'' will often tell you that you need to reach a certain level of calorie intake to get big muscles.
What i've just shown you there is that not all calories are good to consume. Even tho you still need a high calorie diet to make it into this sport, you will have to watch where the calories comes from. buy checking each nutrition facts labels.
